Signing in

If you already have a VoiceThread account, just sign into the App to access your existing content, comment on it, and create new VoiceThreads. Please see the workflow below that applies to you.

Basic sign in

If you normally sign into your account by going to http://voicethread.com and clicking the “Sign in” button, follow the steps below:

  1. Tap the “Account” tab in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
  2. Tap “Sign in”.
  3. Enter your username and password.
  4. Tap “Sign in”.

If you don’t remember your password, tap the “Need Password?” link on the sign-in page.

Ed.VoiceThread sign-in for K-12 students

If you have a K-12 license, you can assign your students VoiceThread usernames (fictitious email addresses) instead of using valid addresses (learn more here). When they sign into those accounts in the iOS App, someone will need to change the domain in the App to be your custom domain so they can continue to use those usernames. Below are the steps they can follow.

  1. Tap the “Account” tab in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  2. Tap “Sign in”.
  3. Tap “Edit” next to the domain near the top of the page.
  4. Enter the first part of your custom domain. For example, if your domain is myschool.ed.voicethread.com, enter “myclass.ed” as the domain.
  5. Enter their username. When they move away from this field, the rest of the fictitious email address will be added for them, just as it is in a web browser.
  6. Enter their password.
  7. Tap “Sign in”.

You will not need to enter the domain each time your students sign in. The App will remember your selection. You can also lock that domain in place so that students cannot edit it themselves within the VoiceThread App. To lock your domain:

  1. Navigate to the Settings app on your device.
  2. Tap on “VoiceThread”.
  3. Tap on the “Custom Domain” field.
  4. Make sure the correct custom domain is entered.
  5. Toggle on the lock switch.

External authentication

If your school or institution has integrated VoiceThread into its information system, you’ll need to change the domain in the App to be your institution’s domain. Do that by following these steps:

  1. Open the “Settings” app on your device.
  2. Tap on “VoiceThread”.
  3. Tap on the “Custom Domain” field.
  4. Enter the first part of your custom domain. For example, if your domain is institution.voicethread.com, enter “institution” as the domain. If you don’t know your institution’s domain, please contact us.
  5. Close the Settings app and return to the VoiceThread app.

Note: You only need to do this once. The VoiceThread App will remember your domain preference in the future.

Once you’ve changed the domain and returned to VoiceThread, tap “Sign in”. The next steps you take will depend on what system your institution has configured. If you normally sign into VoiceThread on a page that looks like the screenshot below, proceed with the steps just below.

  1. Follow the steps above to change your domain.
  2. Enter your username and password.
  3. Tap “Sign in”.

If you normally sign into VoiceThread on a page that looks different, whether it is your normal institution sign-in page or a learning management system, please follow these steps instead:

  1. Follow the steps above to change your domain.
  2. Tap “Sign in” even though you haven’t entered a username or password yet.
  3. You should now be redirected to your institution’s sign-in page. Enter your username and password here.
  4. If you access VoiceThread by clicking on links in a course within your learning management system, navigate to your course and tap on those links as you normally would.

Sign-in assistance

If your institution uses external authentication and you have not yet set the institutional domain in the App, you may be redirected to the correct domain based on your email address. If your institution supports this, you will see a hint when you enter your email address and a button that takes you to the correct sign-in page.
